What types of currency were used for trading on the silk road?

I need a list of the currency (money) used for trade on the silk road and the dates from which they were used. I can't seem to find this information online. Everything I find is too vague. there are no dates. I know gold and silver coins were used so i need dates for those and I know paper money replaced them after a while. Any information (about currency) will be appreciated greatly. Thank you for taking the time to help!|||Sorry, can't give you a comprehensive list, but your mention of "silver coins" does bring up an extremely important historical event that may be of interest to you in looking into this. After the Spanish came to the Americas and started extracting silver from there, they and other Europeans started using LOTS more silver to buy stuff via the Silk Road. The silver flooded China's monetary system and wreaked havoc with its economy because of the way the Chinese government had defined the relative value of silver and copper coins.

There's a VERY informative, but short and concise, article about this by William Atwell in Volume 8 of the Cambridge History of China. I don't have a copy right here at the moment but I think he may give some of the spefics about different coins, etc., as well as the whole economic overview of the situation.
